The agricultural community was not only important for the production of food, but also allowed for unexpected interpersonal relationships to flourish. In this case, the evidence shows an effective intercultural relationship between the South Asian community and the Mennonite community. A man named Sunder Singh excelled in Abbotsford’s prominent agricultural growth when he bought his 300-acre farm in 1942. He also was hugely influential in the building of the Gur Sikh Temple in Abbotsford. This historic building is a prominent location where the Sikh people worship on a regular basis. Singh had a multitude of diverse people help him during the build of the Temple and later on his farm. His powerful, positive relationships with the people in the Fraser Valley was crucial to his successful endeavors.
